Anyone a member of the Mastrick gym in Aberdeen and if so, how do you join?

Any good gyms you can recommend other than JJB (location; I live West of Aberdeen) and David Lloyds (crazy price).

Currently use Peter Nicol in Elrick but it's really not heavy enough - not that I'm the incredible hulk or anything.

Thanks
G

I use the Warehouse and its pretty much my second home (Twice a day 5 days a week).

It is located down beside the Harbour.

I have tried most gyms in Aberdeen and for Value for money and good atmosphere you wont get any better.

Very friendly staff and members and has everything you could need.

Great Free weights area, Pool, Sauna, Steam room.

If you need any advice I can easy help.

I go to Nuffield Health off holburn street. It's currently getting a refit at the moment with new machines, weights and redesign of fitness areas. They are also planning to have an onsite Physio and doctor to.

I use Bannatynes. Quite expensive but the facilities are excellent, staff are excellent and the atmosphere is good.

I'm a member of the Mastrick gym (aka Dungeon of Pain!). They renew memberships in April and new members are taken on a first come, first served basis. Forget all those poncy gyms, the Mastrick gym's the place to get a decent workout in! Oh, and Results isn't too bad either...

I Agree with above and have trained at both and most of my mates train at results BUT its not really a place to train unless you really know what you are doing and dont mind ZERO Comforts etc.

If you like to have a Good workout and then chill in the sauna etc after it you cant go wrong with the warehouse.

It also has one of the best free weights Gyms in Aberdeen by a mile.

Stay away from the sports village then, always heaving with people and no where near enough free weights. Its all machines and uni clubs using the free weights. Unless your looking to join a gym, would you consider just buying some weights instead. (not that i have any for sale)

It really depends on what you want out of a gym. If it's just general fitness and conditioning, the more commercial gyms are fine. But if you're into more serious lifting, then a 'hardcore' gym (such as Mastrick or Results) would be better.

I go between a few.
Mastick is very good, although very cramp at bust times. Huge weights with a variation in bars etc.
Results gym is also good. Full of serious trainers. Always good advice and the the people who are there are helpful.
Have a bannatynes membership also. Expensive for what it is. Instructors are not very forth coming if you need assistance. Free weights upto 50kg etc. classes, swimming, sauna and steam room are included in the costs.

Have not been to Warehouse in years, although I hear it is very goos with a great atmosphere

Ah yes! You did! How's things?

I went to the Mastrick gym last Sat with a friend who's a member. Problem is he works offshore a lot so I couldn't go all the time with him. Little concerned going myself as I'm sure it's pretty hefty lads who go there and not sure how they feel with a 'skinny' lad like myself going along. Great gym but a little on the small side. Not sure how busy it would be around 5pm on a week day.

To let you understand I'm not interested in cardio. Do plenty biking and squash to cover that side but I'm looking to bulk up. I'm 6'2 and just over 12stone. Looking to get up to about 13.5/14 stone.

Peter Nicol was a hasty move. Doesn't even have a bench or dumbells heavier than 20kg. So I'm not going to reach my target there.

There are lots of folk (indeed, the majority) who go to Mastrick that are 'skinny'! It's a very down-to-earth atmosphere and everyone's friendly and willing to give help and advice. And the ideal type of gym for bulking up.

Good!

If you're going from home rather than town, it might be worth looking at the Garioch sports center in Inverurie. I was a member there for a while and it's basic but cheap, and seemed to have everything you'd need.

Cheers,

FT.
