I have been casually hunting about for a M4 Xtrema 2 for a few weeks, but not had much luck locally. A couple in black synth, but nothing in M4 guise. I know cammo coatings are very marmite, but I just happen to prefer the Xtrema that way and like the additional protection it offers when roughing about the woods and ponds.

Anyway.. having had the Xplor catch my eye, I'm just wondering if anyone here has had much experience with both. I know the Xtrema has a great reputation, but the improvements in the Xplor seem rather nice, as does the way it looks. The Xplor even happens to be cheaper, which begs my next question.. Why? The Xplor seems to be an improvement over the Xtrema 2 in many ways.

I have no idea what you're talking about but whatever they are, they could be cool.

Ah ok. Since we had to sell the Purdeys to have the roofs fixed on the workers cottages we've lost for enthusiasm for a good shoot. Not up with all the modern guns malarky.

A second Gand Hatsan Escort and save your money for a rainy day?
If it's going to be used for purpose, it's going to get knocked, scuffed and so on, so buy the cheapest that you can and keep your cash?
I use an old BSA side by side for rough shooting, it's serviced once every 5 years, given an occasional wipe over and keeps doing exactly what it's supposed to.
As you said- marmite, but I can't see any reason to have a camo 12 bore, but if you must, I would go with the escort

I'd personally go for an over-under unless you have the FAC to have more than 3 cartridges?

Out of the 2 you've put up there, I'd go for the Xplor, especially if you can find it cheaper.

Just my 2p.

Cheers guys. I already have a rather lovely over-under, which is why I'm looking for something less fancy and I wouldn't mind trying a semi auto. The Escort is a good cheap gun, but only has a 3 inch chamber. I'm really after 3.5 for heavy load when waterfowling.

Personally, I can't stand any semi auto, but I'm left handed and it's a pain in the arse trying to find one.

On top of that, most folk I know have constant jams with them, but in fairness they are not shooting the loads you intend to.

I would rather have a nice side by side

It's probably for the best. Have you noticed your wife sleeping more soundly since you gave up the guns.

More of a weak pun regarding the words arm and fire

That you aren't more 'perforated' frankly beggars belief. Keep defying the odds!

That's the joy of burns- plenty of nerve damage so you can't type accurately !!!

I think I'll go demo them both and then decide if I like either of them. If not I'll stick to what I have or perhaps add an old side by side to the collection.
