The loom I have from JS, has a ‘speedo plug’ and on investigation this should pick up from a sensor on the drive shaft to tell the ECU it is moving.

I also found in his parts supplied a speed sensor and toothed wheel (from Dakota...maybe wrong???). I am not sure but since the sensor is a short fat threaded stub, and has 3 wires, one of which is gnd, then +v 12 feed and signal respecively, then I assume this is a hall effect unit???

...and thus the problem, as I have no wiring diag that helps me identify which of the two wires from the loom speedo plug matches up to the +ve and signal on the sensor???? I don't even know if the LS7 loom should be using a magnetic pickup or hall effect since the factory seem to think it should be magnetic, but then their loom is made up especially for them.

Can any electrisical whiz help me?

cheers

Hi Keith,

I also have engine and loom from JS. The supplied Dakota speed sensor SEN-1019
came with a note how to connect it.
Connect the loom`s yellow wire to the sensor`s tan wire and the loom`s purple wire to the sensor´s black wire.
The sensor`s blue wire connect to ground.

Hope this helps

Mike - Good to hear from you - Funny, that is what I did, then a while later got what lokked like contradictory advice from the same source as you - I am no expert but they told me that:

On the speed sensor, BLUE is ground, TAN is 12v power, BLACK is signal.

On the harness, PURPLE is low ref (ground) , YELLOW is high ref (signal).

My assumption then is that BLUE to PURPLE, BLACK to YELLOW???
TAN to 12v ign

So that is what I did the 2nd time....

Can that be right??????

Now with your new revelation....I am REALLY confused! ...but then, If it actually works for you, AND you have not MELTED anything.....

I have PMed you - cheers!

Keith

Hi folks,

sorry for reactivate an old thread, but I have the same problems as Keith wrote...

LS7 engine, JS wiring harness with an yellow and purple wire, and also a speed sensor with blue, tan and black wires.
Please can anybody help me and give me the correct wiring, so I can read out the speed signal from the ECU.

Thanks,
Christian
