GM: Corvette Won't Go Mid-Engined
The General vigorously denies middie 'Vette rumours

General Motors' vice president of global engineering, Karl Stracke, has point-blank denied the flurry of rumours (including our own Corvette speculation story) surrounding the idea of a mid-engined 'Vette.
"I don't know who made this public. I think it is wrong," Stracke told American mag Autoweek. A GM spokesman followed up Stracke's comments, saying he was "quashing those rumors. The rumors and speculation about the Corvette are just that. There is no mid-engine in the plans nor any plans for a wet dual-clutch transmission."
Seems that the Saab engineer who first mentioned the dual-clutch plans was off the mark about a wet-clutch DSG, but a dry-clutch, twin-clutch 'box is still on the table - as it is cheaper and more efficient than a wet-clutch system.
A new direct-injection V8 is also on the way - so no fear of a V6 'Vette, apparently. But Stracke has said that a hybrid is a possibility. Gulp...
Maybe the Saab engineer spoke about the next swedish supercar, as Saab doesn't belong to GM anymore.

Your chances of seeing one in RHD out of the factory are nil. UK buyers don't actually buy many V8 sportscars at all - they're all queing up outside Mr Porsche's shop for a 6-pot. Most of UK's V8 sportscar makers have gone bust anyway.
Modern Corvettes are astounding cars in terms of performance and reliability at great value. Steering wheel on the left is a minor thing for anyone who can drive. After all, look at all the Brits who manage to take their RHD cars on the Continent every year?
Anyone who ever seriously thought Corvette would go mid-engined simply doesn't understand Corvette.

Plus all the enthusiasts here in the US that drive RHD British sports cars! It must be a non-issue since there are probably more MG TCs here than in the UK, and they only made those in RHD.
Anyway, everybody knew the Corvette wouldn't be M/R; it wouldn't fit with all the rumours of the C7 being the Stingray.
