Anybody ever done a seasons carting
Discussion
As A) Im a complete novice (read crap) driver and B) I'm not exactly loaded I just wondered what the feedback is from anybody who has ever decided to compete in a seasons carting.
Im assuming there are some kind of scottish championships? perhaps a newcomers league?
My worry is its full of guys who have been carting for 25 years know each other well and its cleekie(sp?) or worse, its full of 12 yr old lewis hamiltons or even worse Louise hamiltons who will lap you every 5.
Finally did anybody find it satisfying/crap and would you advise giving it a shot. Does it actually teach you anything about driving?
Now all I need to work out is what kind of cart I need and a victim sorry mechanic!
cheers

Crail is probably the easiest for you to get to see here, http://www.eskc.net/
A cracking track, I raced karts (albeit a long long time ago!) and it's the best fun and best driver training you can get. There are classes to suit everyone so get in touch with the East of Scotland kart club on the above link and get along to the next meeting, you wont regret it!

Kart wise, you're probably going to have to go for the Rotax max class, there doesn't really seem to be another equivalent class any more (up here anyway). Though at the scottish championship last weekend even though it was the biggest grid, there was still less than 15 karts on the grid. There is the option of the gearbox karts though!
I'm actually considering whether to go for my licence next year or not, as we still have the TKM kart, but by the sounds of things there really isn't much others on the go any more
www.scottishkarting.co.uk would probably be your best bet for finding out what your options are, there is a classifieds section too, so you can check the costs of some of the gear.

you sure youl manage climbing into a kart?
I raced karts for 3 years before sitting my driving lessons, and i can honestly tell you that it definetly prepared me for it. But I'm sure with your years of experience with driving it wont have as much of a benefit.
Id recommend www.raceland.co.uk for an adult membership outdoor, the marshals were all very nice, but its quite a distance from where you live.
Edited, thats if you want to try out hire sessions, just to get the feeling of it before you spend a wad of cash on a kart and parts.

Not true regarding the rotax class.
Formula blue is alive and kicking in Scotland and has sone of the most talented drivers in the country racing at larkhall every month. 100cc 2 stroke engines with restrictors for different weights to even up the racing. It is worth coming to larkhall this Sunday as it's raceday and seeing them at full race chat, pretty impressive but not too expensive to run for a season. Once you have bought a 2nd hand chassis (£500-£1500) and an engine (£1500 new) you are ready to go.
Hope this helps

Thanks guys,
thats a mountain of info to digest and look into, def think I will go to a meet and try the old flip flop style of brass neck chat to complete strangers to suss things out more.
For the record young Mr Bradley Im still well able to climb into a cart sorry Kart (must get into the habit of spelling it correctly - always good to get advice that stops you "getting lynched" - cheers for that). I just might struggle to get out of a Kart thats all.
Will post in due course once ive done some more digging,
thanks again for all help

Fair enough, it was just based on the scottish championship last weekend but I think Larkhall tended to be busier most of the time anyway.Formula blue is alive and kicking in Scotland and has sone of the most talented drivers in the country racing at larkhall every month. 100cc 2 stroke engines with restrictors for different weights to even up the racing. Think I'm going to have to look into this more myself too!
