Rainsport 2 Tyres?

I've always fitted Goodyear Eagles to my car before, mainly because they're an odd size (215/50/17) and there's not a huge amount of choice. However my local dealer has just offered me some Uniroyal Rainsport 2s for £111 each, compared to £133 for the Eagles. As I'm planning to sell the car within a couple of months the saving is quite appealing (all 4 tyres need replacing).

However I've never heard of these tyres before, and one thing I've never been willing to compromise on is tyre quality. So are the Rainsport 2s a good buy, or am I best avoiding them and sticking with the Goodyears?

I've never tried them personally but they have done well in all the group tests that I've ever read, this is from memory so I may be wrong but I think they normally top the list or thereabouts in wet grip and above average in dry grip. HTH

I had some on a small hatchback and, as the name would suggest, they where fantastic in the rain! Reduced aquaplaning massively and found more grip on greasy roundabouts than any other tyre i've had. In the dry they where ok, nothing special. Didn't have the car long enough to see how well they wear, but sounds like neither will you so that shouldn't matter.

Not tried them but have heard they are incredible. Would not hesitate to put them on my car.

And almost impossible to find.... I really wanted them for my Golf. But no one stocked or could get them. Ended up with Kumhos and like these a lot.

Falken ZIEX ZE-912 215/50 R17 91W for £83.60 fitted on mytyres. Looks like sale of the century if you're selling the car soon. There's plenty of choice in that size if you do the legwork.

I have Uniroyal RainSport2's on my (well dads) Mondeo ST TDCi in 225/40ZR18. I found them to be great tyres. Good mileage & perfect grip. A tad louder than the Conti SC2 they replaced but only buy a tiny fraction. Dad liked them enough to replace them when they were worn out on the front with the same again. Mine were about £111 a corner from a local indepentant garage. Were about £15 or £20 a corner dearer fron National Tyres (that yellow & red one).

Might even put them on my Focus ST when my Conti SC3's need replaceing.

Ive got rainsport 1 tyres on my S2000. They have been amazing, even in the snow, the car suceeded where lots of others failed, including the deepest snow on a slight incline coming up our road.

Simply great. Can only imagine the Rainsport 2 tyres are even better

If it's for the Vectra, change the size to 225 / 45 / 17 and you'll get a lot more choice and a large saving too. I used to pay about £80 for F1's.

They are a recommended size in the handbook, why Vauxhall fitted the 215's is anyones guess.

I had Rainsports on 2 of my previous cars and can't recommend them enough; wet-weather grip was fantastic, aquaplaning was non-existent - a really good tyre (nice tread design too )

He's not wrong you know. The Rainsports go from £111 fitted to £92 fitted.

Uniroyal are made by Continental. I've found them to be better than the "real thing".

I took the deathtrap Continentals off my 106 and replaced them with Uniroyals and they made a huge difference.

I changed from Eagle F1s to Rainsports on my old E36 M3. Rainsports were much better in every way.

In evo's 2010 tyre test, Rainsport 2 was rated 2nd overall.

Interestingly, the Ferrari 458 press cars are on the yet-to-be-officially-launched Michelin Pilot Super Sport, not the S001's as per the OEM fitments.

That might only be interesting to me.

Michelin still keeping up their tradition of high grip levels on wet roads, then.

Must not rain in France very often...
