Hiring a car-transporter for track days

Obviously not to take on track

I'm thinking of taking my M3 track toy off the road (so no tax or MOT!) and taking it to trackdays on the back of a hired car-transporter — something like a beaver-tail Tranny or whatever.

Any reason why this would be a bad idea? My main track is Oulton and it's only an hour away.

I don't drive anymore, and use my girlfriends car for the odd journey but it couldn't tow a trailer.

Cost would be the main thing I would guess, most places with that kind of kit use them for recovery and delivery work and so it comes with a driver which can't be cheap for a full day. May be worth looking at trailer hire + tow car hire as an alternative of you can't find anyone who will do a transporter without driver.

I looked at this sort of thing recently and discovered that the price differential went something like:

Trailer hire 40 quid.
Car transporter van 160 quid.

BUT, there is no mileage allowance on the trailer, but you have the fuel to pay PLUS anything over 50 miles or something is chargeable per mile on the transporter - so it starts to add up. Especially when you're chuffing out for the track day, fuel and consumables on the track toy.

Im thinking of buying a trailer, unfortunately most seem to go onto ebay where you get people overbidding - or the decent priced ones that come up on here go in record time...
