Bruntingthorpe VMAX IV - Cerbera 4.5 178MPH

Not bad I say boys and girls. I tell you what though, it was very scary doing those speeds and having to brake in time with standard setup.

172 was my second fastest which ain't bad at all either considering the conditions.

What's the quickest you done in your Cerb??

Congratulations Big T. I'd love to get to the next Vmax if possible.

To answer your question my max has been an indicated 165. There was lots left but my bottle ran out on this particular stretch of tarmac.

I remember reading a letter in evo once from a Cerb owner complaining that a Tuscan S shouldnt have been used to try and reach 200MPH in the previous issue.

evo had said in the article that the Tuscan S was "scary" (ie, uncontrallable type scary) at those speeds.

The letter writer said he regularly cruises the Autobahns at a smooth 185+MPH in his Cerbera!

Same here with the 4.2 but as it still needed engine work, I backed off.

Not been able to get the 4.5 on to a runway yet.

She was still pulling and you could feel another 10 odd more MPH in the old girl. My speedo was way out though!

Not positive when I hit 178 but I'm sure it was reading close to 190. I know for sure when I hit 169 my speedo was reading around the 180 mark. I really wanted to get some pictures of my speedo but didn't

Crikey Tony that's pretty good. What do you think my Cerb would hit on that run? Surely it'd go a bit quicker than the standard 4.5? As you know I was nearly there. Gotta do it next time.

What's the score with your rear screen? Did you have the windows open when it blew out?

Hi Neil, you missed an excellent day out chap. The cars there were mouthwatering. If you ran yours, I think you'd have really embarrased a lot of people there. I couldn't see you having any problems getting 190+ with your setup and it would be excellent fun to be in the motor on your run back to the start line.

My seals had been going on the window, cos when I washed it the day before, water was coming into the back seats. I may have had the window open a tad also

Well I was a little disappointed not hitting high 170's in the Tuscan S (didn't push the throttle hard enough!) but 168 was my fastest yet in the car and it felt very stable. Ed in the other S got 179.

Mine was rock solid at 179 (Evo did 180.25), and would have been a bit quicker if it hadn't been wet in the morning. It didn't have a problem stopping from that speed either, so the Evo car must have had some sort of problem.

The red change up light was starting to flicker on mine though, so I reckon 185 would have been tops.

At 175+, the speedo was reading around 190 I think, although I wasn't looking at it that closely to be honest!

I wonder if the Cerbie driving Evo reader's claimed 185 was accurate, or a speedo reading, as there is quite a difference.

So if i read that right, cerbera with 350ish bhp makes 178mph, tuscan S with 390/400 bhp and lower gearing makes 1mph extra?

I may (probably would) have gone quicker in the afternoon, as the 180 degree bend leading onto the straight was still wet and slippery when I did my runs in the morning.

It's still mighty impressive that two of Blackpool's finest can put up such a good show even when pitted against the exotica that was also there on the day.

I reckon with a bit more bottle and a better run into the straight, she could have gone into the 180's no problem, also she was still pulling nicely coming up to the traps which was a great feeling, if a little scary.

Agree with you Ed, it was a good show for TVR

P.S. I was very impressed with the run you did against me, you know how to take your bends don't ya! Even though I done you off the start line

The video Mel took tells a different story!

ETA: I was on the grippy side of the track when we started, so I'm sure if would have been a lot closer on equal tarmac!
