So on the news it was stated that a lot of the travel cos are cutting prices due to poor demand this summer. I have a week free on Thursday and am open on the destination and any SE airport. The usual websites don't seem to have many good deals on, any good sites to check?

I reckon it is a ploy to get you interested! You chase a bargain holiday but there are none but the salesperson informs you.."oh but we do have this deal,it's a bit more money...."
A lot of people will pay up and not realise they have been duped wink

Information given is already out of date. They were talking about poor sales during June/July and first part of August. Poor sales have nailed another holiday company to the wall this week. I've been in the same boat trying to find a deal in Greece for early September. Unfortunately, due to the fourth consecutive crap summer we're having, hotel rooms and late deals are being booked up fast now. My favourite resort in Halkidiki had 1 room left (only a mountain view room), 7 minutes later (when I logged back on to book it) it had gone!

I just took 6 of us to Corfu, booked 'last minute' 2 days before departure.

Internet prices were around 250 but ended up at around 350 once we added luggage, seats, beds etc.

The problem is not hotel rooms it is the flights; not many British tourists are travelling so the flights are cut back, thus driving up the cost per seat remaining.

Our hotel was 9 Euros B&B (admittedly a 2 star hotel with very little in the way of facilities) but the flights were very costly.

And forget bloody Greece; I think I just bailed them out.....was spending around 140 Euros per day feeding 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 kids on salad and stews. I eat here for less than that.

Thomson keep sending me e-mails saying they've got cheap holidays but I suspect it's where they want you to go rather than the other way round.

its well worth a physical visit to the agent. I once popped into tommy k's with the only stipulation being that I wanted exotic and cheap. 5mins later i had booked 2 weeks b&b in jamaica for £350ppn.

The teletext website seem to have some cheap deals - cheaper than the holiday provider's website eg Canaries around £200 per person though obviously you'll get fairly basic accommodation as there's no such thing as a free ride but with help from tripadvisor, it's do-able.
