Car Stalling issue

Last night I was joining a dual carriage way and accelerated quite hard. Basically the car then juddered and I lost power, but the engine was still running, managed to coast up the next slip road and then come to a stop at the exit blocking the road...nice! When I restarted the engine, I managed to give it some beans and at least get out of the way of the traffic, but I had to keep it in first at high revs. As soon as I dropped them the engine would stall, and eventually at high revs would stall too.

The car starts fine, but if you don't hold the revs, dies after about 5 seconds. There are no noises and the engine when started sounds fine. Car is a 9-3 Aero. Turbo looks like it’s working according to the boost gauge. My thoughts are I probably blew off a hose when I accelerated, but worried it might be something more costly, so wondered if PH's might have an idea what it might be?

You could have accelerated to hard and triggered the cars "safe" mode. You need to get to the SAAB dealer to cancel it out. Normaly costs about £70-80-ish.

Coil pack? Common on Saabs - does it start fine when cold and then start to play up when warm? Down side is you have to replace the whole lot at great expense as they are one piece - of course it might not be a coil pack at all

If it has an airflow meter, look for tears/splits in the intake hose

I am pretty sure it has no "safe" mode from experience

This was a one off problem with no warning, when the coil pack goes, doesn't it basically not start at all? It also had one fitted about 5000 miles ago.

My immediate thought would be the car is starved for air which could explain why it runs at high revs but not low. Have you check for blockages in the air system?

Remove and clean MAF sensor, if idle issues only remove and clean IAC valve
