Rent car for 3 months - recommendations pls

OK, so due to Nissan randomly moving the delivery of my wife's new car from beginning of Sept to beginning of Dec, I now need to rent her a car for 3 months from Sept 3rd...
Only need something small and cheap and less than 1000miles per month (more like 300miles).
Needs to be able to transport her and 2 kids.
Anyone got any recommendations?

If it's down to Nissan, I'd be contacting them to find out what they are going to do to help out?
....I would imagine SFA......and TBH.....why should they?...I am sure there is something in the contract that would cover them for that eventuality.Edited by madala on Saturday 14th August 10:19

That's what I'd be doing, buy a cheap runaround to use for the three months then sell it yourself when the new motor arrives, I doubt you'd loose much money whereas hiring a car for the three months must cost a fortune!musclecarmad said:

try swap a lease to get a car where someone wants out of their lease early - if there is only say 1,000 miles left on the car then you could get a good price
I have been thinking this through and this point is what was concerning me. Having my wife drive round with my kids in a POS for 3 months with no airbags and the potential of breaking down anywhere is not attractive for the sake of a few hundred quid that I can afford, plus the hassle of buying and selling on a car.t car. personally, I wouldn't want to degrade my wife to driving something so st and unsafe with the 3 people i cared about most in it. therefore, if you aren't completely skint a few hundred quid over quarter of a year is nothing.

Bearing in mind we pay £250/month at the moment for her current lease car and will be paying same for the new one, this is not too bad...
hiring a car could cost £200 a month or more. Just pick up a cheap Mondeo or something similar with a bit of M.O.T on Ebay for £200-300 and when the ne car arrives either re-sell with 99p start and no reserve or scrap it. Would work out cheaper and if you sell the car for about the same sort of money three months of free motoring. 
What has happened to the wife's current car? I would be speaking to Nissan, a similar thing happened with my parent's when they ordered a Toyota the order got fouled up and the car that arrived 1st wasn't what they wanted, so a 3 month delay for the correct vehicle to be built. The dealer guaranteed the trade in value threw in several years free servicing etc. as the delay was long enough that my parent's could have walked away and ordered something else.

OK, current lease car is being picked up on 3rd Sept. New car was due to be delivered on new lease the same day, now delayed by 3 months due to manufacturing delays.2 different lease companies, and obviously will only be charged for new lease from when we get the car.
So I am left with an unavoidable 3 month gap...
