I'm going to be given my old 1997 V70 T5 back (I gave it to my Dad) and I'm wondering how I can insure both it and the S70R (1998) at reasonable cost. I'd rather keep the V70 as long as it doesn't cost too much for insurance because I guess it's only worth a few hundred quid if I tried to sell.

So, I just renewed the insurance on the S70 on the 9th August so I'm within the 14 day cooling off period if I need to cancel (I think).

Does anyone have experience of multicar or second car policies? - or classic/second car policies that cover vehicles of this age/type?

The S70R is modified but the V70 is not.

My no claims is tied up in the S70, and the wife's is tied up with our van, so I don't have any 'spare' NCD to apply to another policy.

All ideas welcomed.

Admiral multicar is pretty good, much fairer price for insuring 2 cars together I've found than seperate policies.

there seem to be quite a few insurance companies that will do multicar - we had one with Zurich.

Theory being that risk/car is less as you can't actually drive them all at the same time....

i have my scirocco insured using my no claims, a couple weeks ago i tried to insure my vx220 on the same "multicar" policy with bell, it worked out aboout £200 more expensive than just insuring the vx220 seperately with a specialist insurer which also included track day cover, even though i couldnt use my ncb.

Bell don't offer multicar policys so you wouldn't have had the multicar discount you'd need to speak to admiral to get the multicar policy discount as they only do multicar policies within the group.
HTH for future quotes.

ok then, so the woman i spoke to on the phone was lieing then, and the joint premium for both cars must have also been a lie, its not mentioned on their web site, butring them up and its available.

Easy Rock.

You simply state that you have another vehicle insured in your name when you come to insure the old Ovlov again. You will hopefully receive an intro discount/second vehicle discount/mirror bonus policy (all different names for the same thing) if you're a low 'moral hazard' i.e. your over 25, have no/very few claims/convictions and maximum NCB (4 yrs+) on your first car you will hopefully receive the same entitlement (as an introductory discount only mind you) on your second Ovlov.

You will receive full NCB on your 2nd car but you will not have any earned NCB on it. So insure it with the same company is best for 4 years plus intil you accrue max NCB on the 2nd car in its own right

Don't need to ring them i work for admiral and bell, admiral are the only ones of the group that offer multicar policies bell have never or likely ever offer multicar policies due to a certain number business reasons, what they will do if you have 2 policies with bell or one policy and want another will offer you a multicar policy but it involves you moving to the admiral policy and will no longer have a policy with bell.
