After looking around for the last couple of weeks I had decided on the model I wanted and today set out to buy said model. Unsuccessfully. It appears nobody stocks watches and they all expect you to buy the display model at full price. Now when I buy a cheap watch for work I can goto an argos or similar and buy a brand new watch still sealed in a box. Why when I want an expensive watch am I expected to have the the finger marked one (and in one place a scratched one) out of the window???

Guess the only option is to buy from the internet.

Goldsmiths will order watches in for you. Not all of their branches sell Breitlings though,

Try Banks Lyon, they are an authorised dealer with a web presence and can be pretty competitive on prices. They have an online chat facility that you can get a price on, if you do try them and get to speak to Aziza, tell her Stefan sent you!

Try Ernest Jones, they ordered my Super Ocean for me and also gave me 10% off the rrp as I paid with switch rather than a credit card.

In addition be very wary of online sellers, there are some very good fakes out there!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll give them a try.

I did try E.Jones in Bluewater. TBH I would have liked to have bought from there as on 2 previous occasions they let me look at the watches and were very helpful. This time however neither of the 2 women that had served me were there and the guy that served me was useless. Wouldn't budge on price (even when I mentioned the place a couple of doors down were cheaper - he said go there) and didnt offer to order in.

Im after a Skyracer BTW

Dominic I'll pm you

I got a skyracer @ half price, it was over Xmas a few years ago from Goldsmiths in Cheshire oaks. Has since closed down.

Maybe with those reductions it isn't surprising. I now have a Bentley Super Sports. Believe me there are deals to be had, you should get at least 30% off list without too much trouble!

What combo are you going for? Croco strap by chance?

I've used these people before:

Admittedly only for deployants and straps, but I'd not hesitate to use them again.

I'm guessing that the AD's have to order and pay for their stock, so given they are a bit more expensive that a Timex or whatever that you can buy off the shelf in Argos, the AD'S are not going to ever over-order stock and tie up cash in too much stock ....?

What's the problem with taking a watch out of the window? Every high-end watch I've bought has come straight off the display stand.

Finger marks should be polished off before it goes back into the window though.

The one I was looking at had a deep scratch on the case and several on the strap. I was then told that was why it was at the price it was despite the fact the raven version at a similar price looked fine. They offered to have the watch refinished - yeah right. I dont remember seeing the scratches when I first looked at it. It is now missing off the stand in the window. I've since learnt all their branches are doing the discount for mint watches so they were lying to me - not only about the fact that it was at a good price because of the damage but I was also told they had no more stock not even in their other branches. Hmmm, their branches in Croydon, Bromley and Brentcross all have the watch in stock in good condition and at the the same price....

Aeropilot I understand your point but these shops are part of large chains so I would expect there to be some stock spread amongst the stores.

Whilst looking in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago when I enquired about stock at one shop the reply was that they should have it and if not their sister shop will.

As for cost of stock, other products can be just as expensive. When we bought our flat screen plasma when they very first came out I don't remember the salesman coming out with a flat packed box and a screwdriver to pack away the display model!!

It just appears to be the direction many large retail stores are going. Odd I think when the main selling point they have over their internet counterparts is that you should be able to walk in and out with the goods that day.

I purchased a new top-end motorcycle helmet earlier this year and was stunned when the guy walked out the stock room with a flat packed box to pack away the one on the shelf that had been tried on by god knows how many people. I went to a smaller 'one man band' type shop round the corner and got one the same in a sealed box for less. If he can carry stock and sell it for less, why couldnt the large chain?

If the item looks to be in great condition then of course there is nothing wrong with buying a watch out of the window...

Hi guys,

Just thought i would bring up this thread instead of a new one. I am after a Super Avenger in black as a daily such as this one:

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/product/breitling-supe...

It is retailing at £3,410 my local goldsmiths offered £200 off if i purchased he item in the window... so the question is who do you trust to buy online from i can see the watch can be had for about £2,700 which is a massive difference.

Thank you very much in advance.

jordan.

I collected my new watch from Dominic last night. Many thanks Dominic. My first 'proper' watch. Chuffed to bits I am. Wife said the grin didn't leave my face all evening
