Value of Cars Without Service History/Stolen Recovered?

I was thinking of buying a few cars from a salvage company and was wondering how to value cars against their proper value when they are cars lawfully seized by customs and excise + vehicles surrendered under leasing agreements and finance repossessions. I know you can trace the service history of cars through dealers, e.t.c

Which type of salvage car should I aim for? Not really interested in crash repairs.
