Car Hire - UK Poland and back - any suggestions?

I posted up in Holidays and Travel a while ago regarding getting to Poland without flying but we've since decided to drive there as the train options don't appeal and are quite expensive at relatively short notice.

Unfortunately after selling a lovely comfortable GT car that would have been perfect for the trip I'm left with a choice of 2 Ford Pumas from the current stable, I don't really rate them for long journeys over 3 or 4 hours and want to travel in a bit more comfort. I doubt I'll be able to flog one of them and buy the Octavia vRS I fancy before the end of the month so I was thinking of hiring something.

I've contacted most of the major hire companies and am waiting for a few to return messages but so far none seem to allow for people hiring in the UK and then taking the car to Poland, other EU countries are OK though.

Do any of you have experience of hiring to drive to Poland or any suggestions as to companies I might have more joy with?

I'm just looking for a mid-size hatchback, nothing fancy, just something with enough power to keep up with traffic, comfy seats, air con and a CD player.
