I'm after a new bedside radio and would like to get one of the those new fangled internet radio jobbies. I had a look at the Pure Sensia today in John Lewis. I quite like the interface with it being touch screen, but the sound was shocking.

I'm not after amazing quality, but would like something that didn't sound like the speakers in my laptop. I don't need anything with an iPod dock either, but the option to stream mp3s etc from another source would be nice.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Having done a little more reading these seem to be the ones to go for.

£200???

Bloody hell, id say get this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/disgo-net-browser-300... and some decent speakers, perhaps try it out in the shop first (no idea if it would actually be compatible with internet radio but worth asking), infact ive seen these for £70 somewhere perhaps makro. Then you could also use it for surfing the net and playing mp3s, is far more portable etc.

I bought my girlfriend the Pure Evoke Flow - it works really well as she mainly uses it to listen to Spanish stations and the sound quality is pretty good, although of course dependent on the quality of the stream. It doesn't have a fancy screen like the first one linked to, but you don't really need it - but it does have touch screen as well as the knobs.
I've also got it streaming MP3s from my server which works well over the wifi network.

I have one of these as well, although I also have the external speaker (provides stereo separation) which IMO makes the sound better. It's also worth the £20 or so for the remote control, IMO.

The Revo is still the best for bedside operation in my experience. To correct my earlier post, it's the Revo Blik, not the iBlik:

For something visually different you could do worse than:

Monitor Audio Airstream 10

Don't be put off by only one speaker - it sounds great

I recently got a Tangent Quattro - Very nice sound, internet radio, FM tuner and it can play media from your PC over your home network (wireless or cat5 cabled) Also has a line-out connection to hook up to a proper amplifier - I like it!

Price is very variable - I got mine from Power Direct (on Amazon)

I've got one of these Evoke Flows but never figured out how to stream MP3s. How did you do it?

By using the Pure Flow Server - you need to log in to The Lounge using the serial number of the radio, then just download and install the server - it acts as a upnp server, so I don't know if you can just use any UPNP software or if it is tied down to only work with the one from Pure (my guess). It runs a small web server so is accesible locally via a web page to configure the settings such as directories, etc.

Mine has catalogued ~30k files, and although there is some lag every now and again when browsing or buffering the next track it generally isn't too bad.

Looks nice, but it's getting a little more pricey than I ideally wanted to spend.

I'm interested in the Squeezebox products at the moment, seems they could work as part of a bigger system over time.

Out of interest, do you have to run Squeezecentre to allow it to stream from a NAS? I'm looking around and it seems the QNAP TS209 which I have at home doesn't support the software.

you can use any upnp server - I use twonky on Linux ( flow server is a badged twonky anyway) or windows media player server on Windows.

Interesting - I thought I had the option to get it installed when I bought mine...

ETA: https://www.ripcaster.co.uk/node/334 and SSOTS is listed as a package in the installation manager...

Picked up a Sqeezebox Boom from Amazon, haven't had much time to play with it yet. Seems nice enough, plenty of stations to choose from (although I was convinced it had DAB!), haven't had a chance to connect it to the NAS yet. However, so far so good smile

Thanks - I did actually download the Pure Flow server but never managed to get it to work. Will have another go....

We have a Pure Sensia at home in the kitchen. I don't think the sound quality's too bad, but for a bedside radio I would say it's a no, no - the clock's so bloody bright when the radio's off, your room would be floodlit!

I've also not been able to get the Pure Flow Server to work....

again, I wouldn't bother with Pure Flow Server, Windows Media Player works just as well.

All my music is on my Mac - is there an obvious option other than Windows Media Player? And how does it work in terms of the Pure radio recognising the source?

I have an Airport Express which works brilliantly - can't see why I can't send the music to the Pure in a similar way (but without buying another £80 Airport Express).

Any tips much appreciated!
