Any suggestions on where I should stay for a few days away in the Lakes? I'll be coming up from Hampshire, staying with a friend in Manchester and then heading to the Lakes for a few days. Nothing too expensive but definately not camping.

Any must do suggestions? I'll be on my own, so safe for a 30ish single female!!

It's going to be fairly busy this time of year. Assuming your driving, you could consider casting your net a little further afield and look at places outside the Lakes National Park, the Eden valley is pretty, you are only going to be 20 - 30 mins drive from a lake, depends on budget.

Bowness upon Windemere can feel a bit like Blackpool peak season.

I'd certainly recommend sticky toffee pudding at the Sharrow Bay Hotel, and check out Langdale Chase Hotel if only for afternoon tea.

Will probably be the middle of September if that changes anything, thanks for the suggestions so far.

Better time of year, depends when the leaves change colour, that's IMO the best time to see the Lakes at their most striking.

This is a good place to start.

I like Grasmere - good walks from there, lovely little town, and some nice self catering places.

If it's a late booking then I'd suggest you'll just be ringing round places until you find somewhere. Ambleside and Keswick are both good places to start your search.
