We have a Discovery V8 at the company I work for which i'm using this week. Checked the oil last night and it was very low, still within the dipstick marks. But trying to find a manual etc as to which spec oil it uses on your own in the office on a weekend didn't yield anything.

Googling as brought up various opinions on which one to use (5W-40, 10W40, both fully synthetic), so which spec do you recommend?

Thanks in advance! Rhys.

Hello Rhys,

The advice varies, but RPI Engineering seem to recommend Castrol GTX, which I think is 10W40. It's a semi synthetic, rather than full, but that won't hurt because it's an old engine design (and of course, you've got a fair few miles on the clock).

Having said that, your best bet is probably to call the office and get them to look in the manual (since I'm guessing that's where it is), failing that, phone the parts dept of a Land Rover dealer.

I think an RV8 likes thick oil, mineral is fine. I asked in the TVR section a while back.
