Yank Re-Affirmation for Pickup Trucks

I realize how you on the that side of the pond lambast us here for out P/U truck love affair. I will be the first to say that, having driven around all classes of roads in the U.K, they are not for you.
However, My particular model has four full doors and a full back seat, more creature comforts than my BMW and better leather than my Jag (seriously, yes). Last night I just taxied the whole family in it for a night out to dinner, hauled 800 pounds of planting soil in the rhino-lined bed this morning, and towed a friend's boat into the shop for work this afternoon. Three very different applications in one vehicle. Hard to beat for what we do here and for how large of an area we operate in. I still put the top down on my Bimmer this evening and had a relaxing runabout; everything has its place and use.
I have no idea what prompted me to post this random and useless thread that will likely only bring me pain.....but there it is.

The trouble is that the average pickup is great transport but not necessarily something a performance enthusiast can get enthused about.
I drove a Ford F150 SVT Raptor on a long journey this past week and I would say I would prefer to own it than the majority of 'performance' cars. Exceedingly impressive......

I will let my other cars handle that role.I had a GMC Sierra when I lived in the US and certainly share your sentiment. It is the ultimate all purpose vehicle. At the moment I am shopping for a motorcycle trailer and I can't help thinking that I wish I had my old truck back, I would have no need for a trailer, or multiple trips to the tip or pay for delivery of that fridge freezer I bought 4 miles away or ever have to worry about speed humps or bad roads. 
Of course I would be kicking myself the first time I tried to park it. I don't think it would even fit fully on my driveway. Just a shame that they tend to go for so much (I have a mental block against paying the going prices when I know what they are sold for in the US) or I might actually try owning one over here.

I like trucks. Always had a Landy or two for doing similar type stuff. But think a quad cab Ram or Silverado would make an ideal family hack here in the UK. Anyone who says they are too big, simply hasn't realised or looked at some of the vehicles on UK roads these days.
A pick up truck is on my list of vehicles to get and when I need more than 2 seats will be moving up the listing rapidly.
My brother lives in Illinois and 18months ago he told me he was buying a pick-up truck. I could only ask, "Why on earth?..."
They have harsh winters, he's a long commute and he's been doing a lot of building work on his house. I drove his truck when I visited last month and it's a great vehicle. GMC Sierra, 5 seat maxi-cab, 5.3 V8.
(It wasn't as nice to drive as the 9 seat Suburban I had....)

Wouldn't argue with that Always see some interesting pick ups when I'm over in the states, there were some really cool properly kitted up ones in colorado last time I went ski-ing
