Of late I have noticed a leak from the gearbox dripping down onto the centre exhaust box. Any ideas where it might be leaking from? I've done a few searches and the most likely cause is from the output shaft - there's an oil seal that goes. Any of you guys had the same experience.

I'm taking out the engine and gearbox over the winter to sort out a few jobs anyway one of which will be to sort out this leak - if only I had somewhere warm and dry to work....!!

You are probably right tailshaft oil seal is favourite,as a temporary measure you could put some leak-fix in the box, this softens and swells the rubber seals making them seal again, but it does only postpone the stripdown.smile

Good news - I got me a garage to work in so it will be all systems go with taking out the engine & box. Whilst they're both out the inside of the chassis will get a good seeing to plus the engine bay will get painted with new hoses etc etc ...ahhh the joys of working inside...

Found a place that will rebuild my gearbox which will sort out the speedo problem. Any other jobs worth doing whilst everything is out??

GV, as you suspect, they do tend to leak from the O ring around he selector shaft, made worse if ATF is used, which is thinner than gear oils. When I had my box rebuilt some years ago, they machined it for a proper oil seal, which did cure the leak. Who's doing your box?

I've so far checked out ashcroft transmissions - they appear very friendly and gave some honest advice on what to do. They are based in Luton which is not far from me and will do a re-build or exchange a re-conned unit. I haven't checked anyone else out yet so recomendations would be appreciated etc.

Seem to be popular (not used them myself), IIRC SH uses them, although I think someone on here did have a problem with them.
