Hi All

My car has been running fine and it has never missed a beat and no warning lights come up on the dash at any time.

But this morning it just cranks over and doesn’t start aahhhhhhh! And no it hasn’t run out for diesel lol

Is this a common problem and easy to solve?

I loosened the injector pipe to one of the injectors and cranked it over and diesel sprayed out, so I presume from that the diesel pump it working ok

Been reading on the net about camshaft and crank sensor faults but before there go other drivers get warning lights on the dash and loss of power etc.

But I have not had any of these faults.

Im going to get a camshaft sensor today and fit that as its easy to do and only £20 smile Ill keep my fingers crossed

Thanks in advance for any help

Andy

Have you made sure is not just something like a relay not switching on the glowplugs? I'd go for the simple stuff first before throwing parts at it.

Just found OBD plug and i have the error code.

P0251
Injection pump fuel metering control A

I think i need to borrow a fuel pressure gauge to check the line pressure

Just replaced the fuel filter aswell but still nothing

Hope its not the fuel pump frown

Try unplugging and reconnecting the Rail Pressure Sensor, then do the same with the Inlet Metering Valve (brown plug on the back of the pump) and the Cam Sensor.

Failing that it's an IDS job in the dealers...

Hi, Yes i have unplugged them all and the conections all look good.

Does anyone know if the fuel pressure sensor on the side of the pump,is always going faulty and telling the ECU theres no pressure when there is?

After clearing all the codes from the ECU now when i crank it over and check, theres no current fault codes, wouldnt the P0251 code keep coming back?

The Rail Pressure Sensor (three pin plug) is on the end of the fuel rail, not the pump.

The two connections on the pump are the Inlet Metering Valve (brown plug) which controls the pressure in the rail, and the Fuel Temp. Sensor (blue plug).

The IMV is a known weak point, and can stick. Sometimes loosening the two screws securing it to the pump body, wiggling the valve and re-torque-ing the screws can free it.

It could be the main seal in the pump that's gone, so that the correct fuel pressure can't build up.

It could be a faulty Rail Pressure Sensor.

It could be a faulty injector.

It could be a number of other things, so you really need to ascertain whether there is pressure building in the rail and go from there.
