Windscreen Removal

Greetings

The search facility is out of action at the moment so the answer may be out there somewhere!

Has anyone managed to remove an S windscreen intact? If so how did you do it, special tool , cheese wire etc?

I'm still in the process of stripping my spares car and this coming weekend I'll be removing the body tub from the chassis. Thought I might try saving the windscreen before getting rid of the body(read cutting it up into bits and taking to the tip)

If anyone is interested in an S3C body tub with damage to the rear off side (drivers side) quarter then let me know before then.......

I haven't done it myself but I have seen it doen at the RAC windscreens place. Mine was cracked a few years ago and they just took a stanley to it and out it fell, all in one piece. I was shocked how easy it looked. Aparantely though getting it back in is much harder, didn't witness that!

Had a scrap shell off Norman (Gerald TVR) with the intention of saving the screen but gave up in the end. It is VERY EASY to chip the glass as you try and "ease" it out, if any part is still slightly attached the adhesion to the mastic stuff is so good it pulls the glass away from the inner laminate layer.

Nothing lost in having a go though !

Best left to an experienced pair of hands. Most professionals would struggle with this due to the age of the car and the way the glass is fitted.

Like i said it's probably going to need to come out anyway when I dispose of the body. It would have been nice if it came out in one piece, but not the end of the world....
