Hi All

I may need to start thinking about a new clutch on my car soon, so I wondered if anyone had any advice/ideas aside from the usual.

I have had a little dig around on the net and it seems the specialists in my area (Hertfordshire/London) all seem to charge about the same as Main dealer offers... around £2800-3000 + VAT for new clutch fitted.

I was expecting to see lower pricing with some reputable specialists, but does not appear to be the case? Any other recommendations on where to get quotes from? Finally I would usually use a dealer as it looks good on paperwork, but is there any advantage to using specialist, is there any other work on top of this price thats likely to be found when the job is started, that would all of a sudden make specialist labour rates more attractive overall?

Thanks for any tips or advice...

I did notice them, but Hartlepool is about as far away from me as you can possibly get! smile

There advert for £2000 clutch replacements actually are what prompted me to post here, and see if any locals know of a reputable indy in the South which offer similar pricing smile

I would disagree smile Miles on the car plus staying up there while the work was completed probably come to more than the difference, plus my time smile 500 mile round trip from here to Hartlepool and back!

You could try Emblem in Bournemouth, I was going to get my clutch done there but as I needed warranty paintwork done I got it done at LHW at the same time as the paintwork. Emblems prices are quite good if you haggle a little. I am getting my 30,000 (big service) done there next week for £1350 + vat, which is not a lot considering I was quoted as much as £4k + vat by the official Lambo places.

Prices differ depending on if you go for a sintered clutch or normal. I would pay a little extra for a sintered clutch.
Try Verdi in Hayes - they are very good and dont charge through the nose...

I agree, I have a sintered clutch, but, has it actually been proven that they last so much longer?

Which one would the original clutch on a 2007 Spyder be?

Mine has warn through very quickly (11,500 miles - 85%) not through bad driving but because I have to constantly reverse up a steep hill on full lock to get into my driveway, and its killing the clutch, something I have to live with.

My car gets driven, believe me, it is my daily driver.

Anyone with experience in clutch replacement, I also read over on LamboPower that some people have to get release bearing and fly wheel changed at same time... is this usually the case or not?

I think he was actually meaning he didnt want the inconvenience of having to go so far. Not really that difficult to understand, if you can actually understand written english.

Not usually the case from what I know. Ive had clutch changes on gallardo before, if you speak to those who have put sintered clutches on, i am yet to find someone who has had to replace one yet....
I recall one mechanic who said the sintered clutch will last 5-10 times longer.
Call Verdis and compare prices

Problem is, I dont think Gallardo's are old enough to establish how long a Sintered clutch would last. For a mechanic to say 5-10 times longer is his opinion based on what? It cant be experience, unless there are Gallardos with well over 100k miles on them. I would love them to last that long, but I cant see it. Twice as long would be great, but only time will tell.

I was told that for the E-Gear only the main dealers could do it, Apparently it needs a computer program that Lambo wont sell to any of the specialists, I was told that from a specialist in Essex who seemed to know what he was talking about.
