Apologies if this has been asked before but...

We've just received a debt collection letter for ~£3k addressed to the previous owners of our house. We've lived here for 3+ years.

What is the best way to respond to this? Or should I call CAB? I understand that these companies can be a PITA so I want to be careful.

Feel free to point me towards old threads if appropriate.

Cheers.

...Should probably add that I do have the current address of the previous occupant.

We had lots of this when we moved in a few years ago. Previous owner had gone bankrupt. We've always just phoned up the debt collectors and told them the truth - that the previous guy had moved on but that we did not have a forwarding address. Amazingly, they all seemed to just take our word for it, and didn't bother us again

That's reassuring. I'll get onto it first thing tomorrow.

Thanks for the replies.

Or ask them how much the previous owners new address is worth to them biggrin Nothing like giving them a bit of their own treatment eh...

Have you been opening someone else's post? Probably best to just return the post as "addressee not known at this address".
