Hi all

whats my options for new shocks on a S , i'm on a bit of a budget
so would like to keep below £100 per shock if possible
just for general road use

Hi, There are a few options but at £100 a corner you may be lucky to find new ones.
New Gaz standard are about £495 and the Gold about £699.
Try a search on ebay

Note you will also need new springs - the existing ones are too long for adjustable shocks (which all the after market ones are).

I was pretty happy with the Gaz Gold Pros I had on my S3. Easy adjustment, good range. Just make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing to set them up, choose the correct spring rates and ride heights. I had to have a couple of go's at mine.

i have seen advertised spax shocks for just over £100 i suppose they dont have springs at that price
do bilstein do shocks for the S ? keeping the old springs

do i have to have adjustable shocks , i dont require them to be adjustable i dont think ? can you not buy the original shocks and just change them over keeping the old springs ?

i have noticed that the gaz seem to come x4 cant you just buy the fronts only and the rears at a latter date

sorry for all the questions i need options and dont want to throw money away if its not required

Fitted new shocks and springs to mine just after I bought it, two years ago.Looked around for all the "old names" I knew from my youth, Koni, Spax and Bilstein but could find nothing listed by any of the suppliers websites I looked at so went for some Avo's, they were a little cheaper than the Gaz (maybe not the best descision I've ever made).

As far as I could work out there are no non-adjustable shocks available for the S but you should be able to buy just fronts or rears even though ads in TVRCC mag etc tend to price sets of four.

Know its all more expense but springs do wear out too, if you've just bought an S you'd better get used to spending money

I tried to get away with keeping the old springs and it cost me in the long run! As the springs were too long, so then I needed new ones, which meant that the labour costs for the oringinal shock fitting was a complete waste of money and time. I went for AVO shocks. Were not too expensive.

Hi i've not seen the spax but they could be shocks only designed for the original springs.. but being as they are 15 years old they could probably do with replacing anyway.

I could be wrong but a proper dealer like Derek from AB Shocks should be able to supply front Gaz only if you wanted them.. Nickel are probably ok for the front but I recommend Gold Pro's for the back because of the spherical bearings.

Also sorry I know you're on a budget but some bushes would prob make a big difference too.

Hi.
There are a few deals where you can get just 2 shocks.

These are 14 1/2", My AVO shocks were 14"
