Variation on recent topic re gyms - I'm a girlie and don't do muscle building but do like a good swim. For various reasons I'm not too keen on public pools (there's a thread in teh Lounge which completely put me off!) but will use those at a gym / club / hotel / such like. The only one I know of is at the Marriot, which is more of a leisure pool than 'swim lengths' pool - can anyone recommend anywhere please?

Bannatynes has a 20m pool. The pool is an L shape with 2 full length lanes. Quite expensive just for a swim though.

Kippie Lodge (Aberdeen Petroleum Club) has a decent sized pool and was never very busy. Been about 15 years since I was last there though. It's quite pricy for membership, but you pay for the exclusivity and other benefits like the golf course, restaurants etc. Discounted membership wa a benefit from a previous employer smile

Westhill is probably the best local pool - http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/recreation/swimlei...

I haven't been but RGU looks good and has more lane-friendly swim times - http://www4.rgu.ac.uk/rgusport/home/page.cfm

Having been a member of various health clubs in Aberdeen i can't recommend the public pool at Westhill enough. Very clean, very quiet (even in the school holidays!) and rather cheap compared to private clubs.

Thainstone house has a reasonable sized pool, I think they might be doing a free membership period deal at the moment. Not exactly sure though - just drive by the sign every day!!

I wouldnt recommend Thainstone on past expereinces, its OK but is dire in need of a refurb (unless its had one in the last year). For municipal pools Westhill is very good as suggested, or for some added vigour Stonehaven outdoor pool! Problem with minicipal pools is the weird opening hours, more often than not you cant just pitch up and go for a swim.

Shame Aberdeen is missing out on good pools, have the same issue with my kids, we often go to Elgin/Inverness for the day to go swimming instead.

David Lloyds Gym has an exellent 25m, 6 lane pool, always minimum of two lanes roped off for proper swimming... Only downside is you have to pay full gym membership even if you just want to use the pool but to be honest the rest of the facilities are fairly good anyway.

Would not recommend that gym for a female. My wife was embarresed and belittled by a staff member.

Nina,

As John says, Kippie is usually pretty quiet. I'm not sure about the membership situation though.

Murray and Gail use Ardoe and I think that's quite underused as well.

Neither very handy for your side of town though.

Nothing in Ellon or indeed (forgive me) Peterheid?

Cheers,

Eric smile
