I need to know if it exists, does anyone know of a pre-2003 SP6 that has done 25K miles+ without major engine work?

If there is one then dont buy it - it will be due major work the next day!

This topic has been done many times, with various mileages (pick any number from 16-20k), and has become very heated and with personal insults on every occasion.

Sorry Dean, but you're getting flippant answers because no-one wants to get in to that stuff again. I suggest you do a few searches and see if you can find the answer you want in previous threads.

I suspect the answer will be 'no', because significant developments have been made to the S6 engine since it came on the market and whether they have failed or not, most engines have been upgraded to the new specification. This constitutes major engine work.

There now...all worms back in. Pass me the lid will you?

I'm sure there are TVRs with pre 2003 S6 engines in out there that have done >25k miles. Maybe there's only one of them, maybe 90% of the owners that aren't on PH have got engines with no problems.

But the question is "why does it matter?". Is there a specific car you're looking at buying that you're worried about? Are you debating buying a car & putting a lot of miles on it? As it stands, I don't think that answering that question alone is very telling - the lid on that can of worms is looking very worn.

I would take every car on it's own merits. Everyone is aware of the problems that these cars can suffer from, but every car is different. After all they are hand built supercars.

One thing that is for sure is that when (if) you get one, you won't stop smiling!

And as a RV8 man, may I say that, from behind, the Speed 6 does sound rather good having the arse kicked out of it at 7000 revs .... thanks for that experience Mr Nubbin

I could be converted yet... now convertible Tuscan v hard top Cer..... ah, that would constitute worms again I suppose

You seem to be spending more & more time in the Cerb forum nowadays Al... having AJP thoughts (you KNOW it sounds better in full flight )?

yeah, but it's finding somewhere for the full flight bit that's the problem... c'ept in your case of course, when any old bit of slip road will do

I had to hold my flat cap on whilst doing it. Was a bit tricky changing gear in the wellies, too.

And as for the slip road - you know me, I'm not picky.
