Hi all,

Enthusiastic amateur.....have a "project" that has been standing since roughly this time last year. I came to move it (from one part of the drive to another) and happily it started first time with the battery charger. However it was incredibly difficult to get it into gear. All gears were the same, there was a bit of graunching but it went in with some persuasion, so I was able to move the car. The bite point was noticeably higher than before, but with clutch fully depressed there was no drive to the wheels.

What has gone wrong?

Ozzie,

this sounds a possibility, I've just googled so i now know what one is! Are they easy to replace?

Thanks for the response

I've changed a few, very easy to replace, normally only a few bolts holding them on, just depends on access.

You'll need to bleed the clutch line after though, so a friend to pump the pedal will be needed, or use an easy bleed.

There's a few off centre oily marks on the drive, can't see a leak from the engine so it must be something like this. I'll get under it later on.

Cheers

Often the answer is yes, if the cylinder is mounted externally and readily accessible it can be as simple as a couple of bolts and the fluid pipe. In the meantime if you make sure the fluid reservoir has some fluid you might be able to "pump up" the hydraulic system with multiple pushings of the pedal - sufficient to enable gear engagement. Failing that you'll at least have to bleed the fluid system to get it working again, but the only real fix is a new seal fitted in the slave cylinder or replace the whole cylinder.
