RE: Supercars At Wilton Raises Thousands

The second running of the fabulous Supercars at Wilton House event looks like topping last year's contribution to the Stars Appeal, giving a significant boost to the charity's work to make life better for kids in Wiltshire's main hospital.
"That being the case, I'd like the chance to say how extremely grateful we are, not just to Lord Pembroke, the organisers, and the supercar exhibitors, but also to everyone at PH who made the effort to support the event and brought some pretty special cars of their own."
"Thanks are due to the Salisbury Journal for arranging the Motor Show alongside the PH Saturday Service, to Tony Hetherington, Dean Smith, Fiona Easterby and Swift for their coverage (DVD and official pic-set on the way), to Harsh from Petrolhead Nirvana for his ongoing support, to Ecurie 25 and H.R.Owen for lending me the LP560/4 and 458 Italia, and of course to everyone in the PH community for bringing so much in so many ways."

PH community gets a big vote of thanks from the Stars Appeal
Last year's event raised £8,000 for the Stars Appeal (and a similar amount for Wilton's own restoration charity), and in spite of the rain this year the attendance figure was similar, with over 6000 paying visitors.
Stars Appeal director Dave Cates told PH the money will go straight into the 'Caring 4 Kids' campaign, including the provision of family accommodation for the parents of critically ill babies, and a dedicated children's area in the Accident and Emergency department.
"However the Supercar day isn't just about raising money," Dave tells us, "it's also extremely valuable for raising our profile locally in the community."
Event organiser Jay (aka PHer Jaykaybi) has also asked us to express his personal thanks to the people who helped make this very special day happen.
"The show simply could not have happened without the extraordinary efforts of the staff at Wilton House, Jane Stevens-Smith, Nigel Bailey, Chris Rolfe, Andy Rhind-Tutt and the Wilton Rotary Club who volunteered to marshal at Thruxton AND Wilton, and of course Bill, Tom and Pat at Thruxton, plus the generous circuit owner who allowed us to wreak such havoc!
Here at PH towers, we'd just like to add our own congratulations to Jay himself, who has worked tirelessly on the project for the second year running, and created an event that has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a good cause, delighted thousands of spectators, and been great fun for exhibitors too.
So on behalf of your fellow PHers, we tip our virtual hat to you, Sir!

It really was a fantastic day. Lots of money raised for charidee, great cars and great people.
I'll make sure i'm around for next year's event too.

Great work Jay - oh and thanks for geting me to drive the LP560/4 at the head of the convoy. Leading a convoy of Veyron, 458, F1 GTR etc etc will stay with me forever!

It was a brilliant day, well worth the five hour trip each way! Personal favourite was the Koenigsegg, or possibly the Aeromax. F40s and Zonda PS were very impressive too. And the F1 GTR. And the Veyron. I was right behind the thing when they revved it up and I swear it's no noisier than a Golf, though very hot. Something of an honour to be breathed upon by a Veyron.
As has already been said by everyone, cracking day and one that I'd been looking forward to since last years event.
I got there at 10am and it wasn't long before the sky's opened and it chucked it down, but it only lasted for an hour or so and was fine once the cars started to arrive at midday. Some nice metal in the car PH car park as well (Where else could you see a BMW M1 !!!)

As a previous poster has said, there was some fantastic metal in the PH car park, let alone outside the house. BMW M1, Ultimas, Lotus, Delta Integrales, you name it...
Hats off to the chap in the Westfield Megabusa who I parked next to - that farm track up to the car park certainly looked like a "challenge"
Ironically, the stand out bit of the day for me was when the supercars left. Standing bang next to the driveway watching millions of pounds worth of every piece of exotica trundling past with little boys (and grown up boys) shouting "Rev it mister!" was just great. My ears hurt for a good long while, especially after a certain Diablo obliged.

Absolutely corking day out, took my mates 3 year old who is absolutely car nuts and he recognised almost everything, put me to shame!!!
My highlight of the day - Seeing someone I have worked with for ages, no idea she was a car nut, getting out of her California, shortly followed by her letting me have a go (only a sit in it mind!), immense!!
Very well organised, defo worth going again next year - must remember to stay away from the pick 'n' mix though!

A great day - friends who went loved it and swore they will be back next year! It was all really well organized with a great friendly atmosphere.
It was particularly interesting that so many turned up despite the weather being iffy. What if it had been sunny?
Incidentally, a suggestion one of my mates made was to sell a simple leaflet listing the cars and their owners (and a bit about them - not too lurid!) to visitors. Maybe charge 50p a throw. It might help people feel more involved and raise more money. Just an idea.

I've received, regrettably, far too many kind words of thanks to respond to every one individually but suffice to say I'm absolutely delighted with how the show went, and with how many people (drivers and visitors alike) braved the elements and showed their support. I truly appreciate all of your comments enormously!

I was shown the cramped intensive care unit for premuture and unwell babies, the lack of play facilities and the dingy WW2 concrete corridors that are home to those kids for a great deal of their lives. The Stars Appeal contributed massively in publicising the show. I would urge anyone who did enjoy the event to show your thanks by making whatever donation you can to them, even if it's only a fiver. "Please" and "Thank You."
