Honda Jizz, not all that you know
Discussion
Well I suppose that there is a camp that says x,000 wrinklies can't be wrong when they all seem to be buying these things. I can tell you that they are not only deluded but also very wrong.
The S2K had to go in for it's service over the w/e and our favourite oriental ex PHer's staff did them proud. I have to say that the service was top notch. The courtesy car, somewhat less so though.
I specifically chose not to adjust my driving at all, I just got in and drove the same as i would any of our three cars and about the only thing i did differently was not overtake quite as many cars as i could/would have done - but that was only sensible.
Somehow though i still seem to have spent £21 on boggo unleaded when the same trips in the S2K, using V-Power, would have cost me at least £3-4 less in go juice alone. Added to which I would have had the choice of roof up or down, had a little fun on the way, and got there a hell of a lot quicker.
So for those of you thinking of trading in your sports car for an eco box, think twice, you might not end up with the savings you were after. Even if walking out of a Jazz with Radio 4 in the background sounds a lot less incongruous than when it is emitting from the S2K!

They're not that bad - they're good for what they do. They're roomy, nippy, economical and is a better car than some of the alternatives.

Driven in the same way, or driven at the same rate?
I regularly use my mums 1.2 fiesta for commuting when it is my turn to drive as the M3 wont do more than 25mpg, however it took me a while to work out that the Fiesta won't manage much more than mid thirties to the gallon if I try to commute at the same 60-70 leptons across my A&B road routes.
Your S2000's natural pace is a lot higher than a sewing machine engined Jazz, however a fully functional Jazz should be capable of double the mpg of your S2000 if allowed to drive at its natural comfortable pace

I really liked the first-gen Jazz's I've driven. It felt old-school Honda; nicely mechanical, light and simple to drive. Not driven the new one yet though.
I would propose that if you got less mpg than an S2000 you were either redlining it everywhere or there was something wrong with it. Or you made a mistake with your figures. Was it an auto?

The point I was, badly, trying to make is that if you are considering swapping your sports car for something you perceive will be cheaper to feed go juice you might as well forget about it unless you are prepared to change your driving style.
I am quite good at driving for economy when the need arises but for A and B road stuff there is very little to call in the mpg between the two, when driven spiritedly, and obviously the journey is that much more mundane in the Jazz. Even if there is the humour of the double take you see others doing in their rear view mirror when it is a Jazz that has appeared there!
To be fair though, the S2000 itself probably gets better mileage than most sports cars due to it having a small four cylinder (if highly strung!) engine and relatively low power?
I mean if you move from a V8, twin turbo six or a turbo rotary it might seem like more of a saving!

I'm not knocking you but that kinda seems obvious to me. The Jazz, like any other small car, is not designed for hooning about and by nature encourages you to drive more sedately.
Driving style is everything and if driven as intended the Jazz will yield up to 50mpg.
I completely see where you're coming from though and this works at all levels. To some extent buying a 1.0 Corsa is no more economical than buying a 1.6 as you need to thrash the 1.0 more to get anything out of it. If I were going to buy an econobox though I think I would accept that a change in style were necessary to get the most out of saving cash.
For info I've been thinking about exactly the same thing recently but have been put off by 'real world' mpg figures. I consistently get 40mpg out of my MR2 and was wondering if it'd be worth buying a Jazz/IQ/Aygo/Festa etc. as they all seem to give more than 50mpg (allegedly 70mpg in some cases). However the real world figures suggest 60 is the best one can expect.
Having done the math it would only save me £50pcm and whilst that's a fair amount of cash I'm not prepared to give up my driving pleasure for something that will invariably send me to sleep every time I get in.
Stick with the S2k though. You could save a bit more cash than me but money aint everything

Ok now do a comparison where the s2000 has to transport a family worth of stuff
That's the beauty of having the Chim!
In 1.5 years only at Christmas time when getting people their gifts is a bit of a 'mare have we found it to be a problem not haveing a 'sensible' car in the stable. That said for the last year I have been musing about selling the Box and buying a Mk3 Golf for the daily grind to work and a Caterham.
when my then A8 4.2 quattro sport was in the garage i ended up witha 1.1 mitsi colt hire car. driving at the same motorway speeds and getting to them in the same manner(i.e. as fast as poss) i managed to average 24 mpg...... seeing that the audi did 19 ish i didnt know whether to be proud or disapointed

Although the turbo looks a bit mad:

we put 20k miles on the in-laws 1.2 jazz. Mixed driving (and me revving the tits off, and generally staying at the front of the pack) saw an average of 52mpg!
reason i'd never buy one- really loud road noise all the time, and the ride was like rock- quite what they thought they were doing making a "sporty" handling car for the blue rinse brigade is anyones idea.

We averaged 56 in our old CVT and are getting 60 in the iShift.
Ok - its mostly a 17 mile cross country commute. Seriously, how can you have used more juice in a Jazz ?
