Hi chaps,
Just curious to find out if I am the only one experiencing extremely rapid wearing of the Dunlop 18inch SP runflat tyres (standard on the Mini 18 inch wheels.. JCW etc)??

35,000miles - bought car with brand new tyres all round
40,000miles - fronts worn to tread marker. rears look like new
42,000miles - new front tyres fitted. rears look like new
48,000miles - fronts worn to tread marker and so replaced. rears look like new
53,000miles (now) - fronts worn to tread marker. rears like new

Tracking and geometry is, and always has been, perfect. Yes, I sometimes drive enthusiastically (99.9% of the time the car is within the limits of grip) but this rate of wear is huge, even more than the rear tyres on RWD cars I have owned!

At £170 per tyre, the car is costing me more in tyres than it is in depreciation.. considerably! Any similar experience? How do the like-for-like Michelin's compare? Are they harder? Are they run-flat?

Thanks!

Front tyres on my mini GP lasted 14,000miles in 21 months. Still got one original tyre at the back lasted 31300 since new. Having 3 new tyres next week, £500! Lolbiggrin

Are you actually running with 18 inch wheels?
I can't see the point going to 18s, standard is 17.
My JCW runs the standard 205-45-17W Dunlop SP Sport 01 Runflats, just touched 18000 miles and fronts are on twi but only on outside of tread, which is a sod! Rears have plenty of tread left. And with 210 bhp!

The JCW alloys I have are 18".. there is a newer JCW alloy model I think and they are 17's.. but mine came with the 18's so I didn't really have a choice. But despite their cost and harshness, they do look great smile
