Have you installed a firewall recently?

Dialup or DSL?

Is your ISP suffering difficulties with DNS?

Forgive me for being obvious but have you tried typing the full url ie www.play.com.

Also try www.playusa.com

Drop to a command line and type

nslookup www.play.com

should get back something like

Name: www.play.com
Addresses: 213.167.82.92, 213.167.82.93

If you don't, its a dns server problem.

if that works try

telnet www.play.com 80
then
GET /
and see if you get a load of gibberish back (raw HTML).

If that works, you've probably got some problem with your browser, if not, it could be a firewall or transparent proxy problem.

I get this with some sites, even PH ocasionally. Each time the answer is the same - flush the cache in IE6, delete the history and delete any cookies. Close IE, then reopen and everything is back to normal.

Another example of fine M$ programming.

It never happens in Opera........

Edited to add....

Sorry for assuming you are using IE. Apologies if you are not.

Turns out that a program called Winshow was screwing with IE. pestpatrol.com had a utility to uninstall it. Any ideas how it got on my computer, so I can stop it happening again?

Download Ad-Aware and Spybot, they should stop anything like this installing.
