Shiney, shiney wheel nuts!

Hi guys,

I want to buy some super shiney wheel nuts and wondered if anyone can tell me the thread size or do they vary from car to car? I have a 1990 S2.

M12 metric, 1.25 mm pitch, 60 degree taper

How sad is it that somebody just knows that?

Size is 19mm M12x1.5
It's a very common Ford size.

Thanks for super fast replies guys, now im a little confused!! is there any diff of opinions in those replies as im not massively clued up on techi speak.

No the nuts are the same. Roy is right though - you get M12 nuts in a 19mm spanner size (which are the Ford originals on the car) but also with 17mm and 21 mm spanner size. 21mm won't fit, 17mm might look silly.

Good point Roy, forgot that bit.

He's also right that the thread pitch is 1.5mm - an unfortunate typo on my part, should have checked what I wrote!

I'll go and stand in the naughty corner now (I could do with a rest to be honest, spent all day yesterday working on my car's chassis, this morning I feel like I've spent the night in a tumble drier).

I just bought some push on plastic chrome effect covers off ebay - plenty of sellers on there. I bought a pack of 20 incase I lost one but so far thay have stayed put (in fact without the little tool that comes with them they are pretty hard to get off).
Saves mucking about with threads etc - and the corners don't get chewed the first time you take the wheel on / off.

Plastic ones look superb - I got myself a set £10-12 from the bay.

I bought a set like these with the floating washer which appears to give a greater contact area with the alloy wheel so spreading the load - presumably thats why they were designed that way for alloys...?
