I was chatting with a chum who said that Ferrari produce just 6,000 cars a year. Is that true? That then got us on to how many Ferrari drivers are there in the UK. Does anyone have a guesstimate or a more official stat. I thought about 20,000 but have a feeling I could be way out

Someone will post the actual production and UK sales figures but I am certain it is well below 10,000 per year. Several things make people think there are more, for instance they change hands frequently, so in 5 years, 5 owners is not unusual. They also have a value well beyond the life of most cars so are looked after and live longer (unless crashed! also, oddly a lot of people "Know someone " who has a Ferrari, thus expanding the ownership profile and perceived numbers.
Porsche make around 100,000 cars I believe, so still small numbers in world terms but far more than ferrari.
