Honda CR-V or Subaru Forester? (X-post from GG)
Discussion
Hi All
Apologies about the cross-post, but this got zero response in GG...
The next monster-mobile will see me driving something eminently sensible. TBH I'm a bit embarrassed to be on PH asking for advice on something that will be reliable, dependable, fuss-free and a bit staid, but I know that there is a wealth of knowledge out there.
I won't be buying in Blighty, so price-related stuff is not so relevant, but I'd like to hear from people who have owned/driven one (or better yet both) and can advise me.
Most likely I will be buying a 2-3 year old example.
Any other Japanese car that does similar that I should be considering? I'm after a car-like vehicle that can transport a small family, bicycles and stuff, and will cover large distances (in a voyage and over its life) in relative ease and comfort.
TIA
James

Well the CRV will probably be more economical, but the Forester will be a much more enjoyable car to drive.
Could also consider a Legacy/Outback which is a bit bigger (esp rear legroom etc) than the Forester and generally more refined as well.
The great thing IMO about the Subarus is that they provide all the sensible practicality you could want while still being genuinely enjoyable cars to drive, even a base model Legacy thrives on demanding roads.
