90s Coupe for Sub-£3K?

I'm looking to pick up a half-decent 90s coupe as a 2nd car for a 20 year old. £3,000 is my budget but it could be upped, only said £3000 as I'm being impatient and want one soon but would consider up to £4,000. Idelly looking for a coupe as I want to move away from a hatchback.
The three main cars I've been looking at are Honda Preludes and Toyota Celicas / MR2s. Seems you get the most bang for your buck with those, I've thought about Teg Rs but they're a bit out of my budget for a good'n . Also considered an FTO but they're only imports which would sting my insurance big time.
I'm open to offers of any sorts really except Beamers and Mercs.
Do you have any other recommendations or comments on the cars I've mentioned?

I agree with the Japs not being the best looking of the bunch but most 90s Jap Coupes are bulletproof in comparisons to the Pug or Alfa, not to mention power output from a ~2 litre engine is impressive without going turbo.
Trying to avoid a money pit but choice seems a bit limited unless there's a few models out there which I've not thought of yet...

A '95 Corrado VR6 that's been well looked after would be worth a look at the £4k budget level.

Not the last word in dynamic performance pace or pleasure, but really well put together and refined transport. A really really nice example of how german cars used to be put together, when they really were chiselled from solid granite.
The budget will get the OP the pick of the very best examples available, and a bit of an old man imagine might keep the insurance a little more sensible.

definitely get some quotes from specialists (plus the usual Admiral / Elephant websites) on a Turbo MR2 - they are not anywhere near as expensive to insure as most fast japanese imports.
you would get a decent rev3 turbo for £3,000 these days.
Also worth considering the Fiat Coupe turbo 20v.

as a second car mr2 turbo sounds good.
mind you a nice raddo vr6 can be used as an only car (hatch + 4 seats) and i just dont get bored of the baby "burble" sound everyday.
then you can save up to get a chimaera as ur second car with proper big boy burble lol. (ive got £2.50 saved so far!)

Far more individual and fun that a lot of others. Also sound awesome and will hold its money most likely.
Remember kits and classics are likely to be the most insurance friendly too.
