Motor Insurance - Legal Protection Component

I am fully in favour of paying for the legal protection add on with motor policies at between £15 and £25 generally depending on the insurer.

However, are there any companies that just sell the policy by itself rather than wrapped up with the main motor insurance. With two cars and a bike thats about £60 of legal cover that you would think could be cut in half - the price of half a tank of juice.

The main online companies are only 'selling' the add ons that make them the profit - if the policy does exist I guess it may be through an independent broker ?

From what I am aware they sell you the "legal cover" and then sell your details on to a firm who will provide such "legal cover". Profit from both from the insurance company and dubious added service for you.

I'd stay clear, and if needed get it yourself elsewhere.

Your family solicitor will often offer exactly the same service on a no-win no-fee basis.
There is absolutely no reason to tick the 'legal cover' box.

If you qualify for CSMA membership then they include it. Membership used to be free but it's something like £15/yr now.

Basically if you or a member of your family is vaguely connected to the Civil Service then you can join.
