Car choice - do you dislike following the crowd.

I have to admit that I like to choose cars that are a bit different. Buying anything too mainstream just doesn't appeal as much as something eccentric. I'm not entirely sure why. As a result I've ended up with some cars that clearly inferior in many (and in one case every)way, but somehow, even their faults make the ownership more interesting.
So here are a few of my avoid the mainstream choices. One or two were definately mistakes...

Never really had many mainstream cars mainly due to economics. for example, i bought a rusting Alfasud Ti for £300 once and could have sold it by the ounce of rust. I had an Alfetta saloon as they were much cheaper than a GTV. The American cars were the best way of having a car I would never see anywhere else though - 2 Corvettes, 2 Camaro Z28s, and 2 Mustangs and even a £500 Australian Chrysler Valiant hand-painted by Stevie Wonder using a stick.

Out of interest, which do you consider the mistakes and why?The GTM had a Metro turbo engine in it, but wasn't really much fun and I never got it to handle as I felt a midengined car should.
The Dutton was bought for road track day car and had been a very sucesful hil climbing car. I spend ages getting it through a MOT, including having to fit an hydraulic hand brake.
Eventually it managed 5 laps of Brands before holing the piston. I gave up and sold it at a loss
The Orange plastic one was quite a sucess - my daughter rather like the view and people would wave at her.

Afraid I don't think I can match you (or even get close), but I like to think I've been less mainstream in my motoring pursuits.
And future cars I'd like to get include things like a Pontiac Fiero, Chevy Caprice, Midas Gold coupe or Ginetta, G-Wagen or Wrangler, Ram or Silverado. Corvette and a fox body Mustang.

Good thread. I'd place 'being a bit different' pretty high up the list for any fun car.
My first car (Quantum 2+2):
My first properly quick car (150bhp, 600-ish kg Fiat Twincam powered Sylva Leader):
My favourite so far (TVR S3 - leftfield-ish outside of PH circles!):
ETA Liking the GTM Rossa K3. Always fancied one of those, and I grew up with a similar TVR to the one in the first post...
