Youngsters with classic cars
Discussion
As a youngster 18 with a classic car an mg bgt how many youngsters do own classic cars and what are the reason for it. I have noticd a lot of youngsters with classic cars recently a couple of my mates also have classic 1 with a 79 mini, another with a 76 vw camper, mk3 ecsort just to name a few so how many youngster have classic cars
My nephew (in his early 20s) had a 1967 MG for a few years about three years ago - he didn't have to commute in it, though he did do long holidays in it.
He mostly wanted one after a PAX with me in my race version about ten years previously
nothing to do with cheap insurance.
He also learned a lot about the mechanical side, and the value of looking after the car (preventative) so that it wouldn't break down.

I went out to the VSCC meeting at prescott and there were a few younger drivers with vintage vehicles.
Personally I have a 1967 Landie (at 21) because I've always liked Landies, something I could use for moving large items and wanted something I could take travelling / camping (109 is just long enough for me to sleep in). It's also a bit different and a cheap way to have a second vehicle (classic insurance, tax exempt and depreciation proof)

I had a 1972 MG Midget from the age of 18-22 (28 now). It was a LOT more fun than anything else I could insure at 18, was cheap to run, not that expensive to buy, taught me a lot about mechanicals, and definitely got great reactions at university (actually pretty much anywhere!). It also didn't depreciate. It was pretty much my only car for those four years - sometimes that was a little rough, but it was also a LOT of fun! In hindsight, the fact that there wasn't a whole host of safety gear meant I learnt to respect driving a lot more - a tiny little MG Midget sure makes you feel vulnerable among other traffic, and my driving definitely adjusted accordingly. Oh, and RWD and skinny tires taught me a thing or two about car control too!
I'd recommend it to anyone, but know that the safety thing scares a lot of folks, rightly or wrongly.

My First car was a Spitfire. I still have it, currently under going a full rebuild, was 15 when i bought it and will be 30 next year! Used it daily while at College, good times.
Certainly a lot of Younger members coming through in the Triumph Scene, Dolomites, TR's, Spits etc etc. Without this the future would look quite bleak for the marque?

At 24yrs old (hardly young) I had a mint '89 Merc 190E 2.5-16. Whenever it was mentioned on a date or if I actually picked a girl up in it, it got a combination of strange looks, bemusement and wonderment....wondering what I was doing driving something so old....or more to the point, and I quote "old man-ish".
This happened on several occasions with various ages and quality of girl. Finally settled on one, she didn't really think anything either way of the car. Her dad liked it though.
When we fell out after a couple of years I had to sell it to cover costs of living alone. Had to resort to full time in the daily Fiesta Zetec again, which never had a bad word said about it by any of the fairer sex. Just shows, eh....
IMO, classic cars if you're young damage your sexy-time-action count. Unless its a '67 Stang, '63 250 GT California etc which is quite clearly cool AND worth a lot of cash.

Well quite, but any "decent" car will ruin "sexy-time-action" in comparison to other cars you could buy for a similar price... indeed any kind of respect or whatever from the 99% who don't know what you're talking about.
Vast vast majority will prefer a man driving a new 316 over... hell, let's be really silly... a lotus carlton.
Absolute madness to go with the beemer to anyone who has a clue. But if you look at the prices, almost no one agrees with us. So do you want to be no better than a f
king peacock, or do you want a good car?
Learn to make an advantage of this... f
kwits totally distort the market in everything, let em live their sad materialistic lives, and if you want a top bird then get a hooker anyway...
