Why doesn't there appear to be an ICE section on this forum?

I want to ask people's advice about singe-din, iphone compatible, bluetooth ready head units!

Should I get an Alpine x300?

I guess it's because most new motors have built in ICE that is hard to upgrade or turf out without leaving a big gap in the dash. Ah the days of slotting in a new Pioneer head unit, the highlight of the year! Couldn't try that with the E65 unless I had a PHD in electronics...

Anyone have an opinion on an Alpine x300?

I don't think there's really room for a proper amp in my car and the door speakers I don't mind upgrading. Are alpine head units meant to be OK without amps? Won't listen to music that much probably but would be nice to have my iphone charging off it and also have access to the music when sitting around.

Also, bluetooth I really need. Not worth risking the points and fine.

ICE is far too vulgar for the middle-class sensibilities of the average PH'er.

Music systems come with the car already and only play classical music...in conjunction with an A/C system which dispenses purfumed air into the interior.

Alpine stereos are good quality id recommend them over most brands. Ive had an Ipod Alpine headunit for years now and its never failed.

Personally im not a big fan of upgrading stereos but I liked it for the Ipod interface.

PistonHeads does rather well on Google, as a result if we had an 'ICE' section and some young oik Googled 'fitting some subs in my Saxo' the chances are he would be pointed towards PH. Said Saxo bloke then tells his mates and all of a sudden we have a forum full of those who just want a high level of bass per ££.

Now, or course you are not like that and have a sensible audio related question, but for now GG is the place for that type of question and I can't see an ICE forum being created any time soon

We've had this discussion before, and I still think that's bks. You could say the same may happen if said 'young oik' Googled 'remapping my Golf GTI'. He may be redirected to PH, he may then tell his mates about it, and then PH may get a lot of new members who are only interested in remapping their 150bhp Golf's to 400bhp. Is that such a bad thing? If they misbehave, ban them. ICE isn't all about £150 subwoofers from Halfords.

OP, see if you can get an Alpine CDE-103BT. I fitted one into my wife's GT, ran the Ipod cable into her ashtray which fits her Ipod perfectly, and ran the microphone for the Bluetooth up the A-pillar trim. It's a great head-unit, and I went and bought another one for my car. You should be able to find one for no more than £150. I paid £120 for mine off Ebay.
