My E46 M3 has a blown lower door speaker. It is fitted with HK speakers, is it worth replacing with the same or would you recommend something else?

Please check, but I'm pretty sure that the HK system has an unusual speaker set-up in terms of resistance meaning that the whole system including speakers and amps needs to be changed - I don't think you can just upgrade a pair of speakers for after-market units - there is a lot of information on the net about this - try a search on E46 fanatics.

I heard that those speakers are standard BMW 3 series speakers and the HK is only in the rear parcel shelf, although badged in the front.. could be totally wrong tho.

Thanks - I'll give a main dealer a call and try to get to the bottom of it!

Bump - Did you manage to find out what the problem was?

All the front speakers in my E46 325i have stopped working but rears are fine so I guess it might be a problem with the HK amp that sits below the CD changer in the boot. A google search throws up similar issues.
