The black dials on my '92 griff have 'TVR' written on the face somewhere - all apart from the clock. This looks like some generic vauxhall/ford part and just has the word 'quartz' written on it. It doesnt look original because the bevel edge is a slightly different shape and shade to the rest of the dials and doesnt fit quite as snug in the dash. Was this the original clock? Or should it have the TVR logo on it?

Mine was the same IIRC - very much like a refugee from a Christmas cracker - and it ticked like hell. Just one of those 'original Griff' things I think.

How very true, on both counts! It sounds like someone has placed a time bomb under the dash. I've since taken to disconnecting it.

Don't get too excited about white dials either - it's like staring at seven full moons, all different sizes and brightnesses!

Is your TVR sign on the top of your Speed dial?
As mine is and it means that when I am doing 70 + I cannot see the speed as it is directly down and hidden behind the steering wheel.

Makes speed monitoring a little awkward. At least til I get to 90mph then I can see it again without doing too much neck exercise!!!!!!!

Ps my clock ticks loudly too!

On mine the TVR logo is at the top (same with rev counter) with 70mph indicated dead centre at the bottom of the dial and I can see all the info I need. The rev counter and speedo are viewed nicely through the gap in the steering wheel provided I'm going in a straight line, but when I'm cornering the last thing I'm looking at is the speedo anyway! The only way I can see it being obscured is when the steering wheel is adjusted upwards to the maximum when I get in and out. Cant imaging anyone actually drives it like that though!

I think you must be either a)very tall, b) very short, or c)sitting with the seat reclined too far.

Have a problem with the steering wheel at the mo. Meaning it has to be quite high.

Have long legs so my driving position is a bit odd.

Should be fixed this weekend and I think that will cure it.

Mmm, my thoughts exactly... but moving swiftly on...

The 4.x Griffs had a speedo with 70 at the bottom, expressly for the purpose of not being obscured by the wheel. They soon changed for the conventional style with 70 at the top.

Actually, having checked, make that 95.

Yeah, its a later car though. I think simpo may be right and it was just the that the very early cars had some generic, geriatric, timepiece. Without the logo. I'd still like someone else with a circa 1992 car to cofirm this though.

My 1992 Griff clock isn't logo'd. It looks absolutely spot on identical to the one my Dad had in his 2.8i capri years ago. I'd say it's a Ford. Mine's ticks quite loudly and I've seen it in other precats. I'd say you have the original clock there.

On my '92 Griffith the clock just has Quartz written on the face, it keeps good time but is totally silent.

My K reg 4.3 has a clock with a loud tick and no TVR logo. Mind you I love the ticking noise reminds me of my wedge tivs which ticked away nicely.

Just your clock without TVR?
None of my dials (except speedo & rev counter)
has TVR on them and it is one of the things that
has always annoyed me.
Can you replace them with new ones?

How did that song go 'tick tock, tick tock like clockwork eye eye eye'?

Mine's an Aug 92, has the Quartz clock described above and has a very loud tick - interupts the melody from the ass end !.

Often wondered if it was original. I guess if TVR did the clock we would have to get used to a diff. time zone - they all do that sir !.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like it's original then. However, I might still wait until until I bump into JIG's at a meet, get someone to distract him for 10 minutes, and then surreptitiously swap clocks

More like lock him a soundproof booth blindfolded for 10 hours while you curse and struggle with the dashboards. He'll never suspect a thing, I'm sure
