DB9 or M6

I am looking to change 645 in next 6 months and see the M6 and DB9 have reached into the 30-40 k bracket so the question is which one to buy, both have reached what I believe is the near bottom of their depreciation curves. BMW should have lower service costs then the Aston except for major service. However on the sound and fun curve does the M6 win with 500 bhp or the Aston win for overall
'speacial' feel. Appreciate all advise / opinions.

Sound of the V12 is infinitely better, as is the cabin, looks, etc.

I'm sure someone will come on and tell you the M6 will be faster round a track but on a public road you'll never get near eithers' performance so I'd go for the one that grabs you emotionally.

Have to ask, what sort of DB9 do you get for £30-£40k? I'm guessing a ropey moneypit one?

i wouldnt choose an m6 over the DB9 whilst the m6 is a lovely car, i cant see it been any better to run day to day than the DB9 and as said the db9 will be special every time.

The DB9 is actually quite a dull car to drive. Lacks sparkle. Think comfy GT. Once you've got beyond the admittedly lovely looks and the sound, that's pretty much it.

Depends how involving you expect your performance cars to be.

M6 chassis is more involving, and much faster. Also more practical with usable back seats (if you have kids). Still not the last word in feedback (it's no 911), gearbox and transmission has a reputation for playing up, but it's a lot of car for the money.

XK very nice but brother who is 50 just bought one and when I am 50+ I will look at Jag. Although 2nd hand XFR may be a good buy next year, and I have some grey hairs already!

What a terrible decision to have to make!

I'm betting either way you can't go too wrong, but I second the thought that the Aston will bottom out far higher than the BMW, as much as anything because IMHO anyway the 6 is a bit of a hippocrocapig.

Having said that, you have already grown accustomed to the 6 looks so a pumped up one might well float your boat.

This. I looked at a few recently and, to be honest, didn't find the driving experience anywhere near special enough and really just a tiny bit of a disappointment.

Sure, if you want to pootle around in your own James Bond fantasy world and look awesome in the golf club car park, it's a great choice. If you want to enjoy your driving, I think you can do better.

No, I rarely watch TG, why do you ask ?

Like hearing an echo of Clarkson. If you would rule out a car at that market based on what the key looks like and for what flashes up on the little screen that you don't have to look at for 2 seconds then you're barking.

The XK isn't exactly fault free and the interior's nowhere as nice as a DB9. There's also no manual option and it's four cylinders down. I would suggest that these things perhaps matter more?

FWIW the 'ECU' is only fairly recent, before that it was a Volvo key covered in leather. Shocking!

I don't agree with you OP that both cars have reached the bottom of their curve. History tells us the Aston probably has bottomed (or near enough) whereas the Beemer will continue to drop all the way down to 10 grand and below with age (see M5 prices).

You're more likely to see an older chap driving the DB9 nowadays. The Jag's image has come a long way and you'd be getting much more car for your money.

If it has to be either the Aston or BMW, I'd go for the Aston. But either way you're bound to lose a stack of cash.

I think that the DB9 is one of the best designs I've seen and it just has that wow factor about it. The M6 is a great car as well, but it's still got a bit further to drop in prices I think.

Engine size, with the world turning fast to batteries and big engines becoming unpc and outlawed by EU I believe this is the last chance to own a car with great engine such as the BMW V10 and the ASTON V12. I am not bothered by looks (I drive a 645!) but the sound of the V8 in the 645 is great, the thought of a V10 or the ASTON V12 really sells the cars to me. I am not interested in tracking these cars but the GT concept works for me as I do a few cross European journeys every year. I was tempted by the M3 DCT Saloon but at the same price of a one year old model you could buy a low mileage M6 or a 4 year old DB9 hence the dilemma...
