Mystery Knob

Could someone tell me what my knob does, i found it under the steering wheel cowling, has the fan symbol on it, and it does turn

not sure, have a fan override switch already, the bright red cables that you can see.

Good suggestion, thats what i thought, but why would someone but it the other side of the cowling

I suspect it is a heater knob that someone has put on the air conditioning temperature control.

On most cars this is just a spindle with no knob. It should be preset so that the air con evaporator just doesn't freeze up - otherwise the trinary switch kicks in and releases the compressor clutch until it thaws out again.

It is definitely the air con thermostat. I believe that later cars had the aluminium knobs fitted as standard. Don't turn it up too far though because you'll get problems with ice.

Slightly off-topic but what "extras" have you wired in with the red wire in the pic?

should we all have a temp control for the a/c then? I dont know where mine is. 4.5 1999 if any one can help!!

The red wires are the fan override switch the previous owner had that one installed and is a very good idea.

That would explain the knob then, my cars a very late 04 model 4.5 and explain why it's hidden away. The air con is cool enough, better than on my MG ZT v8 in fact.
