Tip for Renault Laguna Mk 1 owners: Dirty EGR valve

Here's a little tip that might come in useful for anyone experiencing a loss of power and the Engine Management Light coming on, which is supposedly due to the EGR valve being blocked:

Before blaming a clogged valve, first check the pipe coming from the manifold to the valve. I thought the valve was clogged and ended up replacing it (£140ish from Renault), but it turns out the pipe was cracked, causing a lack of pressure. Saying that, it would be prudent to clean the valve at the same time as removing the pipe. Also, remember to replace the pipe gasket every time it's removed. The EGR vale has a metal gasket that doesn't need replacing upon removal.

My old Mk 1 Laguna must rate as one of the worst cars I have ever driven. It would understeer for France!!!

Blocked EGR valves/pipes seems to be common on a lot of cars now.
