Alarm won't stop going off

My missus had a small front end shunt a few weeks ago, car went to insurers 'recommended' garage, they had it a week and 'fixed' it - where 'fixed' means put a non-genuine bonnet on that was 1 inch too small so looked atrocious.

I didn't accept it so gave it back and they kept it 2 weeks. When I got it back, I drove it home and within 3 minutes the alarm was going off. It happened all night that night so I took it back the next day and they had it another week. They then bullstted me by saying that the alarm wasn't going off anymore so off I trundle back home and, lo and behold, the alarm is going off again.

Now, third time down to this garage, bear in mind it's 40 miles each way. I have to say that I did give them a bit of an ear bashing (apologised to the receptionist afterwards, not her fault I know, but I was in a bad mood!) but left it with them for another whole week anyway, picked it up today after assurances (and complete bks) that it wasn't going off. Took it home and, well, you can probably guess...yup, still going off every 10 minutes.

Now, I have 2 questions around this;

Firstly, would anyone have a clue what could be causing this? The garage says they have done EVERYTHING to it, even had an 'alarm expert' in and he couldn't find anything.

Secondly, their resolution now is for me to take it to a main stealer myself, pay for them to fix it and then see if the insurance will give me the money back! I don't think this is right and think they should be doing something more, am I right/wrong?

Apologies for the long thread, but it takes some explaining! If it's relevant - it is a Vauxhall Astra convertible (convertable?), 2002 reg.

Does it work on door and bonnet catch sensors?

if its had a bonnet then i would look to see if its got a bonnet switch.

Take a look at the bonnet sensor - bound to be that.

Yep, 4th'd for bonnet switch. I have known of sooooooo many causing problems. Apparently a lot of alarm fitters don't fit/connect them now as they cause so many problems and the alarm should have battery backup anyway so if they cut the wire it will still sound if it's set.

Insurers should be sorting it out, that's where my main gripe is at the moment, they don't seem to give a rats arse about it now they've had our excess and up'd our policy!

The bonnet catch has been replaced and they have checked and replaced the alarm sensors too so they're not willing to explore that avenue any further.

Try disconnecting the bonnet switch/es see if that makes any difference.

Try charging the battery.
My Nissan used to go off like that when the battery got low, but more likely the bonnet sensor if it hadn't happened before
