Okay, here goes, for a while now the car has been difficult to start and I`ve found out today that it loses pressure in the common rail. What can cause this? also the light on the dash does not come on to indicate a failure. I`m hoping to get it on the diagnostics tommorow, I suspect a leaking valve on the high pressure pump. When the car does fire up it pulls well and runs smoothly with no problems, help!!! I`ve tried to search for the problem and it could be a number of things causing the starting problem.

I would go for the fuel pressure regulator?(its the small unit on the back of the H/P pump)Get a diag`done to see what fault codes are stored.

Hello Old Merc, thanks for the quick reply wavey, I`ve just found this http://www.christiantena.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/moto... The info also points to the regulator breaking down and returning the fuel back to the tank, I`ve got something to go on now.
