Hi, just found that on my registration doc my puny little Smart Roadster has a static noise level of 91db - unfortunately I'm meant to be taking it to a Croft 88db day on Saturday...

Anyone got any experience of how track day measurments match up to the EU measurments for un-modified cars?

Looks like I'm going to be taking my RX8 with is apparently only 85db according to the DVLA, despite having over twice the power and coming with a Prodrive back-box from the factory.

the v5 test is a drive by test, the track day test is a static test with the noise meter 45 degrees to the side of the car etc.

So different, as tyre noise etc not taken into account at the track.

Why on earth would you take a smart roadster instead of an rx8 anyway?

The v5 has both static and drive-by ratings. Drive by was 73db.

The Roadster is cheaper and more disposable than my RX8, I'm happier to push it plus it's actually very very good fun to drive. It's not it's first time on track, but it's my first quiet day - I should have asked what the meter read last time I tracked it.

ah well you see thats my ignorance to these noise ratings.

My car is old enough to not have been measured!

And thank christ my bike is too!

Had a good day at Croft, recommended if you have a quiet enough car :-)

Looks like the V5 is pretty accurate - the RX8 PZ was 85db static as advertised.
