Cheap European Road Trip in a sub £1k car!

This post in another thread got me thinking.....how cheap can you do an awesome European road trip in an interesting car.
With nice early 90s barges and cabriolets being much more reliable than 70s & 80s cars a budget euro trip in a sub £1k car + £50 tent must be an interesting prospect. If you bought right you could even flog the car after your trip and make a few quid to cover some of the holiday :-)

However our budget was slightly different to yours by the sound of it, and so... we are going in a £700 1992 audi cabriolet 2.3, all sharing the driving, with nothing booked apart from the ferrys and a tent in the boot! Thats a real way to do a road trip

Jelous much??Im Hoping.... as are my two friends coming with, that we can! Trust me buying an audi cab at that price has not been without problems, and european breakdown cover is a must for us. But I will let you know how it goes when I get back.
Personally I think that as we are all young and still stupid, it will be a great laugh if anything else, and its the events that make a trip like this, and you are guarenteed to get events if you are 3 20 year old guys driving around an audi cabriolet thats nearly as old as we are with nothing but a tent and beer to keep us going. If you are one to embrace adventure in life, and are prepared for a few sticky situations along the way, you certianly can do it on a budget!

Its possible to do it in a sub £50 car... I have done it twice!

Admittedly one was a POS Renault 11 that while comfy and comedy did splutter over 70 as the fuel pump just couldn't hack it. We didn't think to try a 30 min motorway run to see what would happen! :facepalm:

What's the worst that can happen?
