Watched a fantastic video this morning of a Classic Porsche carving through the spray at a recorded 108mph. Unfortunately this re run was from the back seat of a plodmobile. Thought it was going to be a dont pass go - go straight to jail but the BIBs must have just had a bacon buttie and asked if I would like a Fixed Penalty and 3 points instead. Is the Pope....

However they also revealed that the M6 Toll is helping them get their quota easily as the need to speed is great. Came back the same way later and they had one car pulling people and the other with a camera on a bridge. Be warned

Glad to hear you got away with a FPT.

Unfortunately, these days, if you have a clear wide road free of traffic, then you have to be on your guard for talivans and BIB with laser guns.

Thing is, if you can't speed on it, what's the point of using it? So if word of this gets around properly, it'll be deserted soon - let's face it, the only people who'll use it are those who want to save some time by being able to travel faster. Derek Volvo isn't going to pay 3 quid to do 56mph down it, is he? It'll be deserted and revenue will plummet.

The govt and investors will soon realise this and the police will be moved along. Watch this space.

How ironic. When it is safest to speed, it is more likely to ker-ching some money into Plods pocket.

I find that I am safer from radar & laser based cameras during rush hour, when weaving through traffic on the bike. Radar won't pick me up, 'cos I am too small on the bounce back. Laser has a problem for similar reasons, and some others that I won't divulge here

So we have the nutty situation of empty roads = nicking, crowded roads = more accidents.

Safety Cameras? my a**e !! what a crock. Even Joe Public is waking up the fact now, witness daytime TV & the tabloids.

even the bbc are having a dig at cops being stuck behind laser cameras in the radio 4 advert,a guy drives past a cop on a deserted country road and as the camera moves out behind him and the words "why arent you out catching real criminals?" is on the road...next scene is the guy being pulled up by the plod for speeding.

afaik the m6 toll-road looks deserted every time its shown on tv so what would be the harm in derestricting the road totally?....the loss in revinue i suppose!

....i'm behind you on that one, if you pay then it poss should be viewed as a "private" road and therefore derestricted...unfortunately the general driving standards and road awareness of the uk public is poor and the autobahn route won't work in the uk.

It seems a sensible way forward to completely derestrict the M6 toll road.

This gives people the option of paying to 'live life in the fast lane' but also the toll booth/payment interface gives a degree of seperation from Granny wit and Lenny the Lentil Schlurper.

Plus I would happily pay, and would go further and say I would support derestricted toll motorways in the rest of the country.

Loss in revenue? you have got to be kidding . With no speed limit I would expect to see revenue go through the roof.

I refer you to this interesting quote from an undated Daily Telegraph article found online, referring to the M6Toll, "On the 27-mile pay-as-you-go motorway, which runs north of the existing m6, average speeds of around 70mph are confidently predicted ..."

Now, to produce "average speeds of around 70mph", you MUST get sppeds in excess of 70mph! Of course, this doesn't make it legal - Streaky

I would be interested in investigating this 'private road' thing further. The possibility may be there that it is not officially designated as a public highway in which case would the police not have any jurisdiction here?

Anyone care to comment?

Its not a private road, it is just operated by a private firm under contract.

If that were the case then the large parts of the M40, M1, M6, the M4-SSC and a load of A roads would all be police-free zones. The roads are owned by the govt. and just built & maintained by private companies.
